Dear Friends of Mercy,

One hundred and seventy-five years ago in Dublin, Ireland, Catherine McAuley founded the Sisters of Mercy, a congregation of women who vowed to serve people who suffer poverty, sickness and lack of education, with a special concern for women and children. In 1844, the first U.S. Mercy Academy for young women opened its doors in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Today, the Sisters of Mercy sponsor or co-sponsor more than 20 elementary schools and early childhood centers, 40 secondary schools and 19 colleges and universities that continue the tradition of high-quality, values- based Catholic education. They have educated hundreds of thousands of students from pre-school to graduate levels, and have shaped the leadership of our communities and of the Catholic church in many and profound ways.

At Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, we continue to hold fast to the timeless values of our Catholic faith and the heritage of the Sisters of Mercy while responding to the ever-changing needs, challenges and opportunities of the contemporary world.

To ensure our vitality and to seize the future as the premier all-girls, Catholic high school in metropolitan Detroit, we have embarked on a significant campaign. Investing in Excellence - Building Mercy's Future is the response necessary to meet the most urgent priorities as established by our Sisters of Mercy, trustees, administration, faculty and staff, alumnae, students and friends. There has never been a more exciting time in our history and we invite you to participate as we shape the future of this great institution and perpetuate its Mercy tradition.

Sincerely in Christ,

Sr. Regina Marie Doelker, RSM
